Chelsea's gallery district demands the highest quality printing. From West 19th to West 27th Streets, the neighborhood holds one of the densest concentrations of contemporary art spaces anywhere, and the printed catalog is still how a show travels beyond its walls. We produce gallery catalogs and exhibition materials that do justice to the art they represent, with everything run in-house — and our shop on West 29th Street is a short walk from the galleries we serve.
As a family-owned NYC printer founded in 2009 and G7-calibrated, we control offset, digital, large-format, and bindery under one roof. That means a curator can approve a wet proof in the morning and have bound catalogs delivered before an opening, without files passing between vendors or color drifting along the way. How We Reproduce Artwork
Reproducing painting, photography, and works on paper is a color problem before it is a printing problem. The work below is what separates a catalog that looks like the art from one that only approximates it.
Color management & proofing
We work to G7 gray-balance targets so neutrals stay neutral and tones reproduce predictably across a run. For art reproduction we build to GRACoL on coated stock, hold to a tight Delta-E tolerance, and provide contract proofs and press-matched wet proofs. When a piece has a signature color — a specific cadmium red or a deep gallery black — we match to a physical sample or Pantone reference rather than trusting the screen.
Presses & ink
Short-run portfolios and proofs run on our digital presses; longer catalog editions move to offset, where we can add a fifth unit for a spot Pantone, a flood of soft-touch, or a dot-for-dot duotone on black-and-white photography. For deep shadow detail we can build rich blacks and, on demand, double-hit a solid so large dark fields read as ink rather than gray.
Finishing & binding
In-house bindery means saddle-stitch for slim exhibition guides, perfect binding for thicker catalogs, and Smyth-sewn or lay-flat binding for monographs that need to open across a spread without breaking the gutter. We finish with soft-touch and matte laminates, spot UV, foil stamping, deboss, and French-fold covers for collectible editions.
File prep that saves a reprint
Send a press-ready PDF/X with images at 300 ppi at final size, art converted to CMYK (or tagged with your working RGB profile so we can convert with intent), and 0.125" bleed with crop marks. Keep type and logos as vector, embed fonts, and flatten transparency to avoid banding in soft gradients. If you only have RGB capture from a photographer, send it untouched — we would rather manage the conversion than inherit a flattened file. Not sure what you have? Send the native files and we will prep them.
Choosing the Right Stock
The paper is part of the work. We stock and source coated, uncoated, and specialty sheets and will pull samples so you can see and feel the options before committing a print run.
Coated silk & matte (100–130 lb text)
The default for color-critical reproduction. Silk holds a wide gamut and crisp detail without the glare of high gloss, which makes it forgiving under gallery and ambient lighting. A good all-around choice for photography and painting catalogs.
Uncoated & archival
Uncoated sheets give a tactile, fine-art feel suited to works on paper, drawings, and text-forward essays. Because uncoated stock absorbs ink and lowers contrast, we adjust curves and dot gain so blacks stay dense and color does not go flat.
Cover & board (80–130 lb cover)
For catalog covers, invitation cards, and portfolio enclosures. Heavier cover stocks take foil, deboss, and edge painting well, and pair with a soft-touch laminate for a premium hand feel that reads as “collectible” at an opening.
Large-format media
Exhibition signage, vinyl banners, foam-board wall labels, and mounted didactic panels print on our large-format equipment, color matched to the same targets as the catalog so the show reads as one identity from the wall to the printed page. For anything bigger than a wall label, the same team handles large format printing up to building-banner scale.
Turnaround for opening night
Gallery calendars move fast, and openings do not. Because every step — prepress, press, lamination, and bindery — happens in our building, we offer rush production on time-sensitive jobs: press releases and checklists, opening invitations, wall vinyl, and short-run catalogs. Standard catalog editions typically run on a multi-day schedule depending on binding and finishing, and we will give you a firm timeline with your quote rather than a guess. Hand-delivery to Chelsea galleries, the High Line corridor, and Hudson Yards keeps the last mile under our control.
