Print Design Templates
Print templates. Ready to design.
Downloadable templates with proper bleed, trim, and safe zones. Start designing with confidence.
Start with a press-ready file
Most reprints and production delays trace back to one thing: a file that was not built for print. A design that looks perfect on screen can lose its edges at the cutter, shift color in conversion, or arrive without enough resolution to hold detail. These templates remove that guesswork. Each one is set up with the bleed, trim, and safe-zone guides a commercial press needs, so you can focus on the design and trust that the mechanics are already correct.
We built these around the products our NYC shop runs every day — business cards, postcards, brochures, letterhead, flyers, and saddle-stitched booklets. Whether you are a designer prepping a client's brand rollout, a marketing manager producing an event mailer, or a small business owner laying out a first set of cards, the same rules apply: design in CMYK, place images at 300 DPI, extend artwork to the bleed line, and keep the important content in the safe zone. Get those right and your file moves through prepress quickly and prints the way you intended.
As a G7-calibrated printer with offset, digital, large-format, and bindery all under one roof, we preflight every file before it reaches a press. Starting from one of these templates gives our prepress team a clean foundation to work from — and gives you a faster, more predictable path from artwork to finished print.

How to use these templates
Four steps take you from a downloaded template to a file that is ready for press. The guides do most of the heavy lifting — your job is to design inside them and export cleanly.
Pick the right size and format
Choose the product and dimensions that match your job, then download the file in the application you design in — Illustrator (AI), InDesign (INDD), Photoshop (PSD), or a layered PDF. Each download already includes the bleed, trim, and safe-zone guides on a locked template layer so nothing shifts while you work.
Design inside the guides
Keep logos, body copy, and anything you cannot afford to lose inside the safe zone — 0.125" in from the trim. Extend backgrounds, photos, and color fields all the way out to the red bleed line so a slight cutting variance never leaves a white sliver at the edge.
Build in CMYK at 300 DPI
Our templates open in CMYK so on-screen color matches what comes off press. Place raster images at 300 DPI at final size, keep small text as vector, and use our rich-black build (C60 M40 Y40 K100) for large solid-black areas rather than 100% K alone.
Export and send for a quote
Flatten or package your file, export a PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-4 with bleed and crop marks, and upload it with your quote request. Our prepress team preflights every file in-house before it reaches the press, and we flag low-resolution images, missing fonts, or RGB elements before they become a reprint.
Match your template to a stock and finish
A template sets the geometry; the paper and finishing set the feel. Here is how the most-requested sizes typically pair with stock and post-press options on our in-house equipment.
Business cards
Run on 16pt or 32pt cover in uncoated, silk, or soft-touch laminate. Add spot UV for contrast, foil stamping for metallic accents, or painted edges on the thicker stocks for a substantial, tactile card. Each of these finishes is covered in more detail on our business card printing page.
Postcards & flyers
100lb gloss or matte text and cover hold photography and bold color well. Aqueous or UV coating protects the surface in the mail stream, and we can address, sort, and prepare mailers for USPS in-house.
Brochures & booklets
Brochure templates are scored and folded to your fold style — tri-fold, bi-fold, Z-fold, or gate fold. Booklets are imposed for saddle-stitch binding, with perfect binding available for higher page counts on text and cover stocks that match your cover design. These are the same stocks and folds behind the printed brochures we produce for NYC marketing teams every week.
Yes. Every template on this page is free to download and use for any project you print with VSL Print. They are pre-built with the correct bleed, trim, and safe zones so your file arrives press-ready, which keeps prepress fast and helps avoid reprints.
Pick the format that matches your software. Choose AI if you design in Adobe Illustrator, INDD for InDesign, PSD for Photoshop, and PDF if you want a layered, application-neutral starting point. Multi-page products like booklets are offered in INDD and PDF because those formats handle page sequencing and imposition cleanly.
All templates are set up with 0.125" (1/8") of bleed on every side, plus a marked safe zone 0.125" inside the trim line. Extend any background color or image out to the bleed line and keep critical text and logos inside the safe zone so nothing is lost when the sheet is cut.
Commercial presses print with cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks, so designing in CMYK from the start gives you accurate, predictable color. RGB files have to be converted before printing, which can shift bright blues, greens, and oranges. Our templates open in CMYK so what you see is closer to what comes off press.
The template sizes map to common in-house stocks and finishes. Business cards print well on 16pt or 32pt uncoated and silk cover with options like spot UV, soft-touch lamination, foil stamping, and painted edges. Postcards and flyers run on 100lb gloss or matte text and cover. Brochures and booklets pair with text-weight stocks, scoring, folding, and saddle-stitch or perfect binding. Tell us the look you want and we will recommend a stock.
Yes. If your project needs a non-standard size, fold, or page count, send us the finished dimensions and we will build a template with the correct bleed, trim, safe zone, and fold marks for your job. Custom die-cut shapes, oversized large-format pieces, and unusual booklet trims are all common requests we set up in-house.
Turnaround depends on the product, quantity, and finishing, but because all of our offset, digital, large-format, and bindery work happens in-house, we can offer rush options on many jobs. Submit a press-ready file built from one of these templates and we can move it to production sooner.
